This sauvignon blanc is from a very well-regarded boutique producer who make fantastic examples of Mornington Peninsula wines. On a visit to their cellar door, I can imagine people coming for the chardonnay, but staying for the sauv blanc - it really is that good! The wine is labelled as a “Fumé” style and has all of the layers and texture associated with this top-tier of savvy. There’s sherbet and intense feijoa on the nose, followed by nettles and fresh pineapple on the palate. It’s a pungent wine, with intensity, but it’s also balanced and long. This is a very smart wine.
