It’s so exciting to see somewhat of a resurgence of merlot as a straight variety in Australia, as opposed to being used primarily as a blending friend to it’s more popular brother, cabernet. When done well, merlot offers a rounded palate full of fleshy dark fruits and nuances of tobacco leaf or leather. We are getting rather well acquainted with this producer now and always gobsmacked at their penchant for making affordable, approachable wines that are versatile enough to drink now or cellar. Throw in a whopping ‘mofo-esque’ discount and you’ll be laughing all the way to the wine rack. Plush berries and plums, a savoury cedar finish that lingers; a few sips in you’ll ask “wait, what did I pay for this?”
